Most people see animal abuse as running over animals on purpose or the neglecting of pets, but with each passing day, the types of animal cruelty continue to increase. Although most of the world 's population believes that animal cruelty is mostly found on the streets and in the homes, there are countless other forms of animal abuse. Some significant contributors to animal abuse around the world are, fishing, animal testing, and slaughterhouses
Most of the animals found on the street were abandoned by their owners, the majority of these animals are either cats or dogs. In regards to abandoned dogs, those animals dogs left without supervision reproduce, breeding puppies that are also not desired and therefore, are mistreated through the neglect that they are left to suffer alone in the cruel world of the street. The harsh conditions that street animals endure are major concerns in animal welfare today. Nearly 75% of 500 million dogs are out on the street. (Stray) The injuries suffered from fending for food are rarely treated. Tumors, infection of skin and open wounds are commonly found on the street animals which go untreated and cause great suffering for the injured and unattended animal. An impressive 74.8 percent of households with children over the age of six have one or more pets.
