Every year more than three million children are abused in the United States.(Child Helpcenter pg. 1). Child abuse is when a parent or caregiver, whether through action or failing to act, causes injury, death, emotional harm or risk of serious harm to a child. There are many forms of child abuse, including neglect, physical abuse, sexual abuse, and emotional abuse.(parenthetical). Child abuse has been around since the beginning of humans. For many centuries the laws have failed to protect children from abuse. In English colonies children were considered property of their fathers until the late 1800’s. During the 16th and 17th centuries American colonists held the same tradition of children being property of their fathers, which lead thru the early years of the United States (parenthetical). thesis Emotional abuse is the least common type of child abuse. It may include telling a child he or she is unwanted or unloved. Parent or caregiver shows little interest in the child, breaking promises and have little to no respect in the feelings of the child. Lots of parents like to embarrass their kids. As for the abused child the parent or caregiver may use language or action that aims towards the child’s feelings. Children may feel terrorized, accused, blamed, insulted,or may feel abandoned. For instances Fiona was emotionally abused by her mom’s boyfriend.
