It is common for young people to hear the phrase “say no to drugs”. Those words had a lot more meaning to me and my peers when we were in elementary and middle school. However, as we reached the end of our grade school education, using drugs became more tolerable. Imagine an incidence where a group of high school aged friends were experimenting with prescription pills. Unsure of the consequences of their actions, these young people would meet after school to get high using the medication that belonged to one of their parents. Now picture this. One summer evening, one of the friends realizes that they are not obtaining the same level of a high as they used to, so they decide to increase the amount of pills they take. By the time the other two friends make their way to the medicine cabinet in the upstairs bathroom, their friend is lying on the floor dead. The paramedics say that it was due to a seizure caused by the pills that were now scattered all over the linoleum floor. How likely is a story like this to be true? Teenagers are faced with several decisions as they learn about themselves and those around them. Unfortunately, one of those choices involves drugs and substance abuse. The truth is, this story isn’t fictional. Lots of people don’t understand that drug addiction and drug abuse are two completely different things. Let 's start with drug abuse. Drug abuse is the action of taking a highly addictive drug that is not is taken for medical purposes.…
