People conditioned by the society they were raised in believe that eating meat and other animal products is acceptable; when better lifestyles are available, that is veganism and vegetarianism. The American Dietetic Association’s position paper endorsing the substantiality and advantages of a meatless lifestyle functions to dismiss false beliefs and educate individuals about beneficial food choices, strengthening the reader’s motivation to eat fewer meats. Vegans are vegetarians who also abstain from eating or using all animal products, including milk, cheese, other dairy items, eggs, honey, wool, silk, or leather. Although many individuals tailor the guidelines above to fit their own moral, ethical and individual beliefs, and many different categories of unique diets have come about from the freedom of defining personal standards. While there are many people who believe otherwise, the American Dietetic Association asserts that a plant-based diet is not only nutritionally balanced and beneficial for the individual, but can be used to prevent and treat certain illness, while consequently caring for innocent animal life.
The goal of the dieticians writing the article is to support with evidence that plant-based diets are typically lower in calories, saturated fat, and cholesterol than diets containing meat unless the diet is greatly supplemented with processed foods.
