The Health Care Professional’s Effect on the Psychological Health of a Trauma Patient
“It is much more important to know what sort of a patient has a disease than what sort of a disease a patient has.” – Sir William Osler. This quote alludes to the idea the knowing your patient is as important that treating the disease alone. Is it possible that the positive or negative communication and attitudes of nurses, doctors, and surgeons given charge over a patient, alter the prognosis of that patient’s health? And if so, is the difference in patient outcome large enough to make the medical community change the amount of education in psychology that medical students receive. The purpose of this paper is to explore the theory that the medical care professional’s personal communication skills has an effect on a patient’s emotional and physical recovery.

Defining the Groups The subjects in this report are divided into two major categories; the first of which is the medical care team, the second is the patients. Both have a subdivision of an experimental group and a control group.
The Medical Care Team
The medical team faction is made up of a random selection of professionals; the majorities were physicians and surgeons along with a small number of nurses in various levels of years and education in their field. The experimental group of physicians had received training, ranging from a three hour to eight hour course to improve their communication skills. The control group was not…
