Healthy Workplace Environment Option
There are many different types of workplace wellness programs that can be offered to employees to encourage them to take steps to adopt healthier lifestyles. Some employers provide a comprehensive workplace wellness program; while others have very few activities that promote healthier lifestyles. Some workplaces may lack to provide and promote a healthy lifestyle.
Investing in a company's employees, by providing a wellness program within the workplace, would benefit performance on the job immensely. Workers tend to be happier and more productive when they are feeling well, both physically and mentally. Social support and encouragement is a very important part of weight loss, getting fit and accomplishing goals currently and for the future. As workplace wellness programs initiates improving a company’s productivity; it also attracts better quality employees, reduces the rate of absenteeism, wiser time usage, better decision making, and improves co-worker morale. Workplace wellness programs are high quality tools in slowing the increase of health care costs. By offering healthier options for employees, the program may reduce one’s chances of suffering from illness. With that said, less illness means the company can lower health plan usage; thereby lowering health benefit costs. By investing in workplace wellness programs, employers will be helping the United States achieve a goal of ending the epidemic obesity issues that continuously increase yearly. According to a health report, “Adult obesity rates increased in 16 states in the past year and did not decline in any state, according to F as in Fat: How Obesity Threatens America's Future 2011, a report from the Trust for America's Health (TFAH) and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF). Twelve states now have obesity rates above 30 percent. Four years ago, only one state was above 30 percent.”2 New Jersey is ranked the 43rd state of obesity.
