Major Depressive Disorder And Substance Use Disorder Essay
Problem Definition In regards to her Major Depressive Disorder, Carmen is experiencing the following symptoms: depressed mood, loss of interest in daily living, insomnia, fatigue, and lack of concentration. Carmen is also experiencing Mild Substance Abuse Disorder in which she reports the following three symptoms: drinking alcohol in larger amounts than what she is meant to take, continuing to use even when it causes problems in relationships, and needing more alcohol in order to get the effect wanted.
Strengths and Weaknesses Carmen presents with both strengths and weaknesses that can both assist and hinder her treatment in dealing with her diagnoses of Major Depressive Disorder and Substance Use Disorder. Carmen has much strength including her resilience to adverse situations, hard-working, strong family bond, as well as her ability to articulate herself. Some of her weaknesses include her desire to please others and feelings of guilt if she does anything for herself.
Carmen’s short-term goal was to gain a better understanding of her diagnoses and how they affect her well-being. Carmen’s long-term goals were to reduce her depressive symptoms and reduce her alcohol consumption.
