My personal understanding of the social work profession is quite vast. Social workers are making a difference in people 's lives by helping people solve and cope with problems in their everyday lives. The most important aspect for social workers in my opinion is to promote positive change. We help provide opportunities and resources for children, adults, elderly and families that weren’t there before. Social workers do what they can to assist individuals, but they also understand that the individual needs to be willing to make changes. Likewise, social workers cannot do all the work for their clients. The clients need to have the want and will to take action. I want to be a social worker because I have come to realize that my passion lies in helping people. I also have a great desire to see others succeed and overcome barriers. In fact, I knew I wanted to help people when I was in middle school. My friends would always come to me for advice or help with some dilemma that seemed to hinder their lives. They would comment on how great of a listener I was and would tell me the outcome of their situation. However, it wasn’t until college that I learned about the career of Social Work. I know being a social worker is going to be a very difficult and demanding job, but I am determined to help make a difference in people’s lives.
