In choosing these two articles I wanted to see how and what impact does school nutrition have on students. School are serving a snack and two (Breakfast and Lunch) out of the major 3 meals that a child is suppose to consume day. I believe that there are several contributors to obesity, especially in children. Schools, media, parents, television and lack of physical activity are some of the environmental factors that impacts childhood obesity. This synthesis will briefly look at what are some of the causes in childhood obesity. The definition of “over-weight” is defined a, having excess body weight for a particular height from fat, muscle, bone, water, or a combination of these factors. Obesity is defined as having excess body fat. Many studies have shown that the result of someone being overweight and or obese is due to the number of calories consumed and/or other factors such as behavioral issues, genetics and environmental factors. According the the CDC childhood obesity has more than doubled in children and quadrupled in adolescents in the past 30 years. “Currently, one-third of U.S. children and teens (25 million) are overweight or obese, increasing their risk of developing diabetes, high cholesterol and other health problems (Hellmich, 2006). Being overweight can lead to many health and social implications such as having low self-esteem, being teased by peers.
