“The most important problem in America is drug abuse.”- Richard Nixon The House I Live In is an eye-opening documentary that informs people of what the war on drugs truly is. The black community has been the initial target of the war on drugs (drugs and drug abuse). This is something that is very hard for me to understand because the white community are the ones who brought the drugs over in the first place, and minorities are made to suffer. Also, higher powers put so much focus on people, that they loose site of what the real problem is. Drugs are the monsters that kill people and destroy everything in their path, that is a proven fact. But they still don’t do anything to fix this problem. Drug Abusers put it before everything else and it controls their lives. The issue is that drugs are available everywhere and the war on drugs creates more problems than it solves. Think about where we are 30 years later, from when "the war on drugs" first started. From the outside, it looks as if the outcome is positive, but in all actuality, it isn’t at all. It would be one thing if the war on drugs was strict and worked and had a positive effect on people. The sad truth is that it has the exact opposite effect, it is strict and does not work at all. A trillion dollars is spent on drug control and as a result, there are only forty-five million arrests.
