Pharmaceutical drugs are necessary in today’s society but if they fall into the wrong hands they can become fatal. Almost every family has prescription drugs in their home. Anyone can access them if they are not monitored. Teenagers will get random pills, get together with friends, take a handful and see what it does to them. This can become dangerous because they can overdose, take the wrong combination or die. Even though they are here to help they can be just as dangerous as street drugs. Kids need to be informed about the facts and the effects so they will think of what it would do to them and how it would ruin their lives.

Her friend asked if she remembered anything from the night before but all she remembered was driving to the party. The friend told the woman what had happened that night. She arrived at the party and was given a few Xanax, which is a pill that is used to treat anxiety and panic disorders. She had never taken Xanax before but all of her friends told her it was perfectly fine to take. She took four and that’s when she passed out the first time. She woke about an hour later and took about 20 more. She passed out once again but this time she stopped breathing. They called an ambulance who took her to the hospital where they pumped her stomach. To her the pills had a long term effect, causing her to not be able to focus for long and she has short term memory loss. Her friends who took Xanax over a long period of time have little to no effects. She stated “A pill can have a totally different reaction on you than the person who it was prescribed for. So a drug that is okay for someone else could be dangerous to you.”
